Cod Liver Oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids, a special group of rare polyunsaturated fatty acids known as good fats found mainly in oily fish. Considered essential for good health, Cod Liver Oil has long been recognised as nature’s elixir of good health for everyday living. With a history that goes back in to the 18th century, Cod Liver oil containing Omega-3 has been widely accepted as a cure for everything from coughs and colds to joint pains and arthritis. Throughout generations, children have been given Cod Liver Oil as a daily supplement. Researchers believe that post natal depression in pregnant mothers and hyperactivity in children has a lot to do with a lack of Omega-3. It is suggested that a daily dose of 400mg of Omega-3 found in Cod Liver Oil is recommended to ensure circulatory, heart and brain health. Omega-3 found in Cod Liver Oil is also associated with the healthy growth of brain cells. Brain cells have a high proportion of fatty membrane which acts as an insulation for the process of transmitting and receiving electrical impulses in the brain. Taking Omega-3 found in Cod Liver Oil on a daily basis can enhance the brain functions while reducing symptoms such as manic depression and aggression under stress. According to research, Cod Liver Oil containing Omega-3 is considered to strengthen the mucus membrane of the throat, and build up immunity resulting in stronger resistance against colds and infections of the upper respiratory tract. Omega-3 found in Cod Liver Oil already has impeccable credentials for its much researched and confirmed benefits of minimising telomere shorting/damage of DNA and its tremendous benefits for heart health. With much scientific and anecdotal evidence attesting its value, Omega-3 has been confirmed to make myocytes – heart cells that generate electrical impulses that cause the heart to beat – less prone to developing abnormal rhythms when an adverse condition such as a heart attack occurs. In addition, many studies have confirmed that Omega-3 can significantly reduce the rate of mortality among those who have had heart attacks.
