Maldives Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, who was in Sri Lanka recently to attend the 69th session of the World Health Organization South-East Asia Region, held bilateral discussions with Minister Health and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne on the sidelines of the forum.
The two Ministers discussed in detail on enhancing the cooperation between the two countries in the field of health focusing attention on accommodating Maldivian medical students in medical faculties of Sri Lanka’s universities, and providing training for Maldives health workers in Sri Lanka.
The Ministers also discussed Sri Lanka providing urgently needed medical drugs for the Maldives and sharing Sri Lanka’s knowledge and expertise in setting up blood transfusion centers, according to Minister Senaratne.
Noticing Minister Senaratne’s knowledge and commitment towards combating non-communicable diseases, the Maldivian Minister has extended an invitation for the Sri Lankan Minister to participate as the chief guest in a seminar on non-communicable diseases to be held in the Maldives.
