Top global conference on public health in Sri Lanka in October

The 44th Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) Conference will be hosted by The Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo from 14th to 17th of October 2012 at the Bandaranaike Memorial international Conference Hall (BMICH) and Hotel Taj Samudra.



The theme for this year’s conference is “Millennium Development Goals Beyond 2015: The challenge for public health.”

Seven hundred plus participation of local and international delegates is expected.

Dissemination of new research findings with above APACPH values and objectives would be the main outcome. Submission of individual scientific papers in the form of abstracts is open for local and international researchers together with registration for the conference.

APACPH is an international academic organization, comprising many of the largest and most influential schools of Public Health in the Asia-Pacific Region and dedicated to improving professional education for Public Health.

The main objectives of APACPH include expanding knowledge, improving skills, enhancing educational/training programs in public health, raising awareness of current public health issues and developing programs of action and effective interventions for their resolution, enhancing the capacity and sustainability of public health systems and assisting in policy and leadership development for health. APACPH wishes to achieve these objectives though the values of respect for diversity, equity, networking and leadership development.

The APACPH has a long history of exploring ways to enhance the capacity of nations in the Asia-Pacific region to improve the quality of life and to address major public health challenges through the delivery of education, research and population health services by member institutions. However, these efforts extend well beyond the traditional boundaries of health, into areas such as global governance, human rights, peace and conflict, gender inequality, development and recovery from disaster.

Their prestigious high profile Annual Conference is held in a major city in the region every year. The last conference in 2011 was held in Seoul, South Korea, and the next year’s conference will be held in Beijing, China.  The 44th Conference to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka would not only be a highly important international academic event, but also an ideal opportunity to tell the world about our country, our people and our heritage,” a spokesman said.
