Waidyatilaka donates Premium International’s Newport ICU Ventilator to Castle Street Hospital

P.H.D. Waidyatilaka, Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE – London and M.Sc in Materials and Construction Management from the University of Birmingham) donated a latest ICU ventilator ‘Newport Brand’ e360T to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the premier women’s hospital in Sri Lanka, Castle Street Hospital for Women – Colombo 08 by his personal contribution on 6 December. Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and Ministry of Health Secretary Anura Jayawickrama graced the ceremonial handing-over. 

The Castle Street Hospital for Women is the premier women’s hospital in Sri Lanka and currently has strength of around 450 beds and provides services to expecting mothers, gynaecological patients, sub fertile patients and neonates. The hospital performs more than 16,000 deliveries per year. It also has one of the largest neonatal units in Sri Lanka. The Newport e360 ventilator helps to improve quality of treatment and efficiency with the Auto Sync package of automated features that can enhance patient/ventilator synchrony.

During the ceremony, the Minister appreciated Waidyathilaka’s generosity and the passion that he has as an individual. Further, the in-charge of the Neonatal Incentive-care Unit, Consultant Neonatologist Dr. L.P.C. Saman Kumara spoke about the importance of this donation and said, “It’s not just a machine that Waidyatilaka donated to the NICU but a valuable opportunity to save many neonates to the future.” Finally Waidyatikala addressed the gathering and explained his philosophy of sharing and meditation. 

Castle Street Hospital Director Dr. Gamini Senevirathne, senior consultants and many hospital authorities and staff of Premium International participated at this function.
