Memory Walk 2014
Embark on a 5 km walk and join the happy band wagon of friends and family of the Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation on 27 September. Every year, supporters of the foundation come together to help create awareness and to inform the community that help is available for these families!
Don’t despair, because help is just a call away! The help-line of the foundation is 2667080 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation currently provides Day Care on Monday and Wednesday and plans to have a third day soon – Friday. Families can seek respite on these days where the volunteers of the foundation provide love, care and support to those diagnosed with dementia. The foundation also provides Memory Screening on a monthly basis, sells hygienic products, gifts and souvenirs and provides a wealth of knowledge on dementia to those who visit the foundation.
A fun walk is on the cards with the start and finish taking place at the Angsana Garden, Cinnamon Grand, the foundation’s host sponsor of this annual event over a decade. Together with Cinnamon Grand are Pet Packaging handing out bottled water for everyone participating in the walk, Elephant House with their delicious hot dogs, drinks and ice cream, Nestle coming in with their health drinks, mobile music provided by Damith Ellaperuma, helium balloons adding colour to the procession courtesy Roshantha, a luxury air-conditioned bus for the elders who would like to join the walk and cannot and the Traffic Police who escort the procession from start to finish.
To beat the heat – please assemble at the Cinnamon Grand by 8:15 a.m. where participants are treated to an energising breakfast prior to walking! The route would be from the hotel, along Galle Road turning into Dharmapala Mawatha and onto Duplication Road all the way to the Bambalapitiya junction. From there, the return journey is along Galle Road all the way back to the hotel where cold towels and more refreshments await you.
A six week campaign which was carried out prior to the walk where the foundation’s main flagship fund raiser and awareness are promoted will conclude at the end of the walk where the raffle draw will be held. Do call the help-line for more information.
