The top achievers and world prize winners
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently held their awards ceremony to celebrate the prize-winning candidates who achieved the highest marks for the December 2018, March and June 2019 exams. ACCA specially honoured affiliates, who completed all papers in ACCA and prize winners who achieved the highest score globally and locally and highest aggregate score of the four professional level exams. 
ACCA Sri Lanka member network panel Chairman Suren Rajakarier in his welcome address emphasised that this is a time of unprecedented change and challenge for the accountancy profession, where the disruption in business caused by rapid digitalisation calls upon those in the finance profession to stay abreast of such changes. “At a time where everyone thinks the accountancy profession in under threat, ACCA has been successful in increasing their reach with over 219,000 members globally and making the qualification relevant to business, making it the most up to date digitally enabled qualification in the marketplace,” he said.
Chief Guest at the function, Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyararatne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, congratulated the prize winners and commented that it reinforces the role that ACCA plays in the formation of the field of finance and accounting in Sri Lanka and beyond. She further affirmed that it exemplifies the potential of the future of the accounting sector in the country.
ACCA MESA (Middle East and South Asia) Regional Finance Controller Oilver Gibbs as the Guest of Honour stated that the ACCA qualification remains highly relevant to all sectors. He said that with businesses today looking for accountants to resolve not only finance issues but to play a key role as strategic business analysts and advisors, ACCA is well placed to meet and maintain these requirements along with the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.
The world prize-winners bringing credit and pride to both ACCA and Sri Lanka were Dayanijah Srimuruganathan for December 2018 for the Performance Management subject and Imthiyaz Mihimaed Inaz for March 2019 for Advanced Taxation subject, whilst the top affiliates were Ashvika Lingeswaran for the December 2018 examinations, Ranuli Anuradha Weerabandu for the March 2019 examinations and Ameenathul Humairaa Hafeez for the June 2019 examinations.
The ceremony was attended by over 400 invitees, prize winners, affiliates, approved learning partners, academics, employers and parents. With ACCA’s consistent aim to deliver a qualification to shape the future of global accountancy and equip students with the essential skills needed to be the professional and ethical accountants of the future, this year’s event showcased the key role played by ACCA in delivering a highly structured and industry-relevant qualification that produces the next generation of finance professionals that will contribute positively to the future business landscape.
