The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) last week announced the most awaited premier event ‘World HR Congress 2021” to be held virtually from 6-8 December.

CIPM in partnership with the World Federation of People Management Association (WFPMA) and Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) have finalised to initiate the ‘World HR Congress 2021’.

CIPM President Jayantha Amarasinghe said this year’s theme of the congress would be ‘Exalting People Professionals Amidst a Planetary Pandemic: Explore, Expand and Excel’. The selected theme signifies the people factor as the pinnacle of the limelight amid the planetary pandemic.

The three-day conference will deliberate on digitalisation, disruption, diversity, and diligence regarding the distinct dimensions of human resource management. There will be an impressive line-up of speakers and panellists sharing insights, experiences, and networking opportunities with like-minded professionals and their best practices in people management. The World HR Congress 2021 will also provide a rare opportunity for people, professionals and business leaders to mitigate the risks and challenges in a new world of work.

“We take pride in hosting this prestigious people's event in Sri Lanka. In a world disrupted by the pandemic, we need resilience as well as inspirational leadership to proceed into the future. New expectations and challenges have emerged in a new world of work and life. Innovation, best practices in people engagement, and trust are critical to achieving sustainable growth and rebuilding our future. The World HR Congress 2021 is the apt place to deliberate the challenges and opportunities to strategise the New HR Agenda,” Amarasinghe added.

Speaking about the event HR Congress 2021 Chairman Dhammika Fernando said the event was originally scheduled for 2020 and they had planned to organise a huge event by inviting international participants who are anticipated to be a part of this event in hopes of uplifting the tourism sector and bringing more foreign currencies to the country. Unfortunately, the event was postponed many times due to the global pandemic outbreak after several attempts CIPM finally got the authorisation to hold a virtual event this year.

He said the World HR Congress is a conference organised by the WFPMA. The World Federation of Peoples Management Association consists of five continental federations namely the Asia Pacific HR Management Association, European Association of People Management, Inter American Federation of Human Resource Management, and North American HR Management Association.

Fernando commented that CIPM is proud of their achievement since they have earned the hosting rights competing with top three countries, including Australia, the Philippines, and Thailand. “This will be one of the biggest opportunities in the fields of HR to represent and display the tiny island as a country rich in human resources,” he added.

CIPM is determined to work with one of the professional conference organisers known as ‘Paragon’ to handle the digital marketing process ensuring to offer the best experience to participants virtually and they will be expecting more than 2000 participants.

“The World HR Congress is being held at a very crucial juncture of mankind. We are dealing with many complexities on top of this pandemic, juggling with people, planet, and profits. The new industrial era has already dawned, and we are on the brink of the next big thing, the fifth industrial revolution, where the human and machine will dance together as technology will help humans to vastly increase labour productivity and to align return on investment with a purpose. However, it will require intentionality and moral clarity,” he said.

“Now that we are grappling with the corona pandemic, we shall overcome by getting used to the next normal where the world of work is challenged the most. The World HR Congress 2021 premier people event will explore, expand and excel in what matters in the new world of work and life,” he added.

He also highlighted the fact that not as many global events are coming towards the country especially during a pandemic outbreak, it is wise to grab this opportunity to showcase our work ethics and standards to stand out as a developing country.

WFPMA President Bob Morton, in a statement, said: “The World Congress is an opportunity to bring together the continental federations and the national associations of 93 countries which make up the WFPMA. As the premier federation of people management associations, we are a globally recognised authority to support the people management profession throughout the world. Blending thought-provoking speakers with networking opportunities, this is a must-attend congress that presents some of the best and brightest minds in the global people profession who will share the latest practices, research, and innovations to develop your knowledge and help you shape your organisation’s future.”

World HR Congress 2021 Co-Chairman Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri also joined to elaborate the different segments of the three-day program, saying that the virtual conference will consist of four plenary sessions, four panel discussions, and four rounds of concurrent technical sessions during the three days of 6-8 December.

“Despite the doom of a devastating pandemic, we see the boom of people factor incorporated with a deeper realisation of the value of human wellbeing. World HR Congress 2021 invites people professionals to engage in a cutting-edge learning endeavour towards expansion” he added.

He also mentioned that there will be 21 foreign speakers, presenters, and panellists including Society for Human Resource Management USA President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., Chartered Institute Personnel Development UK CEO Peter Cheese, Violinist and HR Practitioner on Wellness Sunita Bhuyan, TVRLS India Chairman Prof. T.V. Rao, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Chief People Officer Paul Mills, and Infosys McCamish USA Assoc. VP HR Business Leader Dr. Archana Arcot, amongst many more experienced speakers.
