The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI), the voice of industry in the country, has scheduled a full day seminar on ‘Essential Labour Laws’ with new changes focusing the private as well as public sector employees to be conducted on 17 December from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo 3.

CNCI’s Secretary General Abeyratne Muthugala said that the training seminar has been organised initially on requests that the Chamber has received from some of their member companies.

He further said that, however, the CNCI had also identified the desire of many of the private sector organisations which are in need of developing their employees in many areas of human resource management, such as disciplinary procedure, leave procedure, etc. and certain salient points of the Shop and Office Employees Act and other ordinances when dealing with their day to day commitments.

It is also equally important for all the employees particularly dealing with the areas of HRM, Admin and supervision to be aware of the new and recent amendments incorporated to the Labour Laws, like Wages Board Ordinance, Maternity Benefit Ordinance and Factory Ordinance.

Abeyratne Muthugala further said that it would be an interesting seminar and believed that not only private sector organisations, but also many other public sector organisations and relevant and interested individuals would find it useful to be aware of the important areas of Labour Laws which all employees will have to follow, depending on their capacities.

The scheduled seminar will mainly cover the areas of Shop and Office Employees Act, Wages Board Ordinance, Maternity Benefits Ordinance, Payment of Gratuity Act and Termination of Employment Act

This important seminar will be conducted by Department of Labour Commissioner of Labour (Law Enforcement) and Chief Legal Officer Milanga Weerakkody and Department of Labour Legal Officer K.G. Kumarasinghe, who have long years of experience in the field and possess very good training skills.
