The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the University of Rajarata, Sri Lanka (RUSL) jointly announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their collaborative efforts.
The MoU calls for cooperation in improving financial literacy among undergraduates of state universities in Sri Lanka.
The collaboration wishes to promote capital market education among undergraduates by working together on a number of mutually beneficial strategic initiatives.
Accordingly, the initiative would offer practical educational training and internship opportunities for students who are engaged in accountancy and finance, business management, and economics-related degree programmes with the CSE.
Further, under the terms of the MoU, the CSE will grant an award to the student who obtains the highest value in the Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Financial Management Specialisation Programme.
RUSL will also collaborate with the ongoing educational initiatives of the CSE, Advanced Diploma in Financial Markets (ADFM) as well as in future educational activities, by providing the required expertise and resource persons to the seminars and workshops organised by the CSE to investors around the country in promoting the capital market investments.
Commenting on the partnership, the CSE CEO Rajeeva Bandaranaike stated: “It is crucial to promote financial literacy among Sri Lankans, especially among undergraduates, who are a key segment of the population equipped to contribute to an economically stable future.
“Fronted on this objective, we are glad to be partnered with RUSL in a productive line of initiatives to promote a financially literate undergraduate population for the sustainable growth of the economy in Sri Lanka.”
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajarata, also sharing her views on the partnership, said: “The present-day challenges can only be solved through strategic alliances. The MoU signed between the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and the Colombo Stock Exchange can be identified as a strategic alliance that promotes collaborative research projects, capacity development of undergraduates, and promotes stock market education within the University community”.
“Entrepreneurs can also be created by broadening their horizons and we are confident that CSE will provide many learning and training opportunities for Rajarata University undergraduates.”
