The Nalanda Junior Old Boys’ Association has organised the inaugural ‘Sugunadasa Athukorale Memorial Oration’ at their Malalasekara Hall on 26 November from 6:30 p.m. onwards.
The inaugural lecture will be delivered by old Nalandian Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Director Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
The lecture on ‘Character and Wisdom: Lessons from the Pandemic’ will be delivered physically, via Zoom and on Facebook Live. This topic also resonates Nalanda’s ‘Motto’ ‘Character illumines Wisdom’.
The lecture is organised to commemorate Sugunadasa Athukorale’s 100th birth anniversary which was on 12 November. Athukorale was the Nalanda’s 10th Principal in the chronological order and is always credited for adding vast infrastructure facilities to Nalanda. He was also instrumental in directing Nalanda to be the best in education and sports during his tenure. He was responsible in producing top intellectuals, corporate professionals, administrators, servicemen and internationally renowned sportsmen.
The Nalanda Junior OBA is grateful to Athukorale, under whose guidance and support this dynamic association was formed in 1975. Athukorale was the Founder Patron of the Association.
The Memorial Lecture will be followed by a donation to the school by the Nalanda Junior OBA.
