Gerald Hidelaratchi was recently bestowed with the prestigious Lifetime Apex Award by the Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) at its 51st Anniversary celebrations.
Hidelaratchi was the founder member of the ISMM, Senior delegate and Vice President of the International Federation of purchasing and management. He was also the Past President of the organisation of professional Associations of Sri Lanka. He was further recognised for his valuable and immense contribution with dedication and commitment to elevate the supply chain professions in Sri Lanka. He is also a recipient of the highest professional status of being a companion of the Chartered Management Institute of the UK Charted Companions who are a select group of best leaders from across the globe, recognised for their outstanding impeccable management and leadership.
He is an old boy of St. Sylvester’s College Kandy and a graduate of University of Ceylon. He was an outstanding Sportsman and was Captain of the First Eleven cricket and First Eleven soccer, a cadet, an athlete and a hockey player. He was the Head Prefect of the college for two years 1957 and 1958 and was the recipient of the Cingolani’ gold medal for the best all-rounder student in 1958.
He demonstrated the same skills in sports at the University of Ceylon and was awarded colours in cricket and soccer whilst also playing rugby, basketball, hockey and athletics. He was also a Vice President of the Sports Council in 1961 and 1962.
He held several senior positions in the Government, public sector, private sector and international sector. After nearly 60 years of dedicated service and now in retirement, he remains active within the ISMM and OPA.
