IPM acclaimed Chartered status, continues as ‘Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka’

The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) Sri Lanka is an institute that was founded through collaborative effort of a few professionals back in the year 1959. Recently it acquired the ‘Chartered’ status to continue its operations as the ‘Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka’, being the only Human Resource Management Institute in the country with the Chartered status, promulgated by an ACT of Parliament. 

Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka can be termed as the one-and-only institute committed to serving the people and culture management discipline of a workplace as well as imparting the necessary knowledge for the people management aspirants of the country and to introduce effective methodologies for this purpose. CIPM Sri Lanka has implemented various professional and educational programs producing outstanding and knowledgeable professionals to nationally enhance the human capital in small, medium and large-scale enterprises in operation within Sri Lanka and to bringing it to an optimum level. The institute has also provisioned higher education to both those children who have gained admission to universities and to those who have not been able to secure entry into universities, which is an essential requisite for making their future a successful one following their A Level education. 

Acclaiming the Chartered Status and initiating a novel journey as the ‘Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka’ established under Act No. 24 of 1976, is a key milestone and a tremendous achievement in the history of CIPM. All these initiatives intend to elevate the standard of the CIPM Sri Lanka to the level of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in Great Britain, which commands the foremost place globally.  

CIPM Sri Lanka President Dhammika Fernando, sharing his valuable thoughts on the newly initiated journey stated, “We are extremely glad to receive such an eminent status and to become the only Human Resource Management Institute in the country with Chartered status. I would also like to convey my sincere gratitude towards the network of professionals who have been dedicating their contribution to elevate this institute from its initial stage to what it has evolved to be today. We also aim to achieve the principle purposes by implementing the activities relating to the subjects in the field of Human Resource Management carried out by this Institute becoming the guiding force and global leader in people development and managing human capital.”  

With its mission aimed at developing innovative practices to unleash the human potential, CIPM invests in fitting to the work environment of the present day, generating a workforce equipped with knowledge suitable for today’s work environment through improving human capital, creating a respectable place for human resource professionals in local and overseas job markets and introducing standards, regulating and certifying recognised practices for human resource professionals in the country. 

The new status will add value to the Human Resource Professionals who are associated with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka and who are to obtain its membership will be able to get the title of ‘Chartered Human Resource Professionals’. CIPM Sri Lanka has already formulated a framework along the lines of CIPD UK criteria and CPD paths for this purpose. The recognition, CIPM Sri Lanka has acquired internationally has result in receiving the approval to hold the World HR Congress 2020. It’s a great privilege and honour for CIPM to be the host organisation of this Congress.
