The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) has awarded the Lifetime Prestigious Apex Award 2024 – “සැපයුම්දාම කිර්ති” – to V. Ganesh, a visionary leader and Past President of both ISMM and the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA), for his extraordinary contributions to the supply chain profession in Sri Lanka.
Ganesh’s legacy began in 1986, when he joined the ISMM Council of Management as an Institutional Member representing Lever Bros (Ceylon) Ltd. Over nearly four decades, he has been instrumental in shaping ISMM’s direction and supporting its members. His many contributions include serving as Chairman of both the Finance Committee (1990-1995) and the Professional Development and Training Committee (2002-2008). His election to Vice President in 1998 and subsequent service as ISMM President from 2002 to 2005 reflect his unwavering commitment to the organisation.
In addition to his service at ISMM, Ganesh was elected President of the OPA in 2013, becoming the second Past President of ISMM to hold this prominent position and bringing renewed prestige to the institute. He was recently appointed Trustee of the OPA for the 2024–2027 term, reinforcing his lifelong commitment to professional development in Sri Lanka.
Ganesh’s academic and professional background has set a standard for excellence. He holds a Diploma in Purchasing and Stores Management from the Polytechnic, where he received the best student award. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), Ahmedabad, he also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo. His career includes distinguished roles at Unilevers as Chief Buyer and Head of Logistics, followed by a successful tenure as CEO of the Nawaloka Group of Companies until 2021. He returned to Nawaloka as a consultant in 2024.
His role as Chairman of the Panel of Judges for the National Supply Chain Excellence Awards in 2023 and 2024 reflects his status as an industry authority. Despite his extensive career, Ganesh continues to serve on the ISMM Council, exemplifying his dedication to the institute’s progress and future.
ISMM said it is deeply grateful for V. Ganesh’s inspiring leadership and his unwavering commitment to advancing Sri Lanka’s supply chain industry.
