With a vision to create more opportunities for women to enter the hospitality industry and become economically stable, Jetwing Hotels launched an innovative “Second Careers” project to celebrate International Women’s Day last week with a tangible difference for women.
Jetwing Hotels’ equal opportunity work environment has seen women given the backing to rise through the ranks, with two directors, three heads of properties, and many other women in management positions. The company’s landmark Jetwing Youth Development Project has also paved the way for many young women from all over the island to join the hospitality trade and achieve financial independence and fulfilling career growths. Thrive, Jetwing’s small-scale supplier sustenance program, works predominantly with female entrepreneurs, assisting them in capacity development and market access.
Jetwing’s latest initiative promotes second careers for middle-aged women who are economically inactive yet eager to pursue a career despite their lack of training and experience in a formal setting. Focused on attracting female talent whose career goals were curtailed by household expectations and child-care responsibilities, Jetwing Hotels believes their creative recruitment practices will allow them to extend income generation avenues for women and share the benefits of tourism with local communities.
In its first iteration, at Jetwing Yala, 10 local women were provided opportunities to join the industry in various departments of the hotel – from kitchen to housekeeping. Expanding the project further, seven women joined the operations at Jetwing’s hotels in the cultural triangle – Jetwing Lake and Jetwing Vil Uyana.
