The KPMG Academy will be launching ‘The Virtual Assembly’ which will be a series of webinars to be conducted during the week on key pertinent topics with KPMG resource persons and guest subject experts, industry leaders.

The objective of this series is to dissect and analyse a topic providing clarity into the subject. This will assist the decision makers to understand the impact stemming from such changes to their respective businesses or on oneself.

The initial session launching ‘The Virtual Assembly’ will be on 29 June from 3 to 5 p.m.

Titled ‘Dissecting Corporate Amalgamations from Legal and Tax perspectives’, it will feature Dr. K. Kanag-Isvaran PC.

The incidence of amalgamation, though common in the business sector, is shrouded with misconceptions, specifically in the context of taxation. An in-depth understanding of the legal aspects of amalgamation is a pre-requisite to analyse the tax implications. Further there are many relevant case laws in foreign jurisdictions which could be applied in Sri Lanka.

Dr. K. Kanag-Isvaran is a President’s Counsel, having taken Silk in January 1988. He is a Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln’s Inn (1964), a Graduate in Law from the University of London (1965) and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka (1966). He was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Laws – LLD (Honoris Causa) by the University of Colombo at its Convocation on the 24th of November 2017. He has completed over 50 years of active practice at the Sri Lankan Bar.

KPMG Tax and Regulatory Principal Suresh R.I. Perera and Tax and Regulatory Director Rifka Ziyard at KPMG will also participate and discuss pertinent areas with regard to the topic.
