MIBM CEO Selvaratnam Nimal recognised as Best CEO of the year by BWOI, USA

Selvaratnam Nimal, the CEO of Metropolitan Institute of Business Management (MIBM) was recently recognised as the Best CEO of the year (Gold award) of micro sector of the Education Industry by Business World International Organization (BWOI), USA.

He received this award from Minister of Irrigation Chamal Rajapaksa recently at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo. Former President Maithripala Sirisena graced the occasion as the Joint Chief Guest. BWIO Awards is the most admired business platform across the world due to its exhaustive research and selection process. It is a powerful platform for the companies to reveal their achievements and success stories to the world. The selection process comprises of key factors such as overall growth, innovation, workplace culture, products and services offered, leadership, business ethics, governance, corporate social responsibility, reputation and other similar elements. 

Selvaratnam Nimal is the Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Institute of Business Management (MIBM), which conducts seven management courses, three photography courses, two language courses and ICT courses by highly qualified lecturers with relevant industry experience.

An engineer by profession, he is also qualified in marketing and business administration. He has more than 30 years of experience in management having held senior managerial positions in several renowned corporate groups including Production cum Technical Manager at PhotoKina Ltd. (KG Group), Business Unit Head of Hayleys Consumer Product Ltd. and Chief Executive Officer of Photo Technica Ltd.

He has completed two Master’s degrees in Business Administration specialising in Marketing Management (India) and General Management (USA). He is also a Lecturer for Management and Photographic Subjects and conducts Leadership Workshops in Sri Lanka and India. An active member of Lions clubs International, he is also the recipient of three leadership medals of excellence, presented by the Organisation. In 2013, he was conferred the prestigious national title of Deshamanya in recognition of his outstanding social services. In 2021 he was appointed as Justice of the Peace for Whole Island. 

After receiving the Best CEO award Nimal said that they have identified that online education is the future and even if the pandemic stops today this online education concept would not stop. He also said that knowing this, MIBM had invested in online classes and today students were attending classes from all over the country where this had not happened before pandemic. 

At the beginning they had faced issues like changing the mindsets and attitudes of faculty and students for online education but they had been able to overcome it with necessary training. He further said leadership is turning opportunities into achievable goals, and MIBM would make use of every opportunity to produce future managers with leadership qualities to take the country forward. 

If the business is performed well the country’s economy will grow. To improve the business, we need good leaders to manage the business and MIBM will play a vital role in doing so. 

He also mentioned that he is currently working towards collaborating with a foreign awarding body and very soon MIBM will achieve this milestone. Under his leadership the MIBM has also increased the number of courses from one to 15.
