Women in Logistics, WiLAT SL has held their first mentor-mentee meet-up on 14 January at the auditorium of National Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka. The event was organised as a part of their flagship event, Ignite 6, a mentoring program for young logisticians.
This event provided a platform for the registered mentoring students and graduates to interact with their mentors and build up a conversation.
WiLAT SL Chairperson Gayathri Karunanayaka welcomed the mentoring community to the event and emphasised the importance of mentoring in current terms. Retail Hameeedia Group Chief Executive Officer Niroshan De Silva addressed the gathering with an energising guest speech. He reiterated the fact that youngsters joining the workforce need to be equipped with self-confidence and quick thinking.
Ravindu Yapa, an undergraduate of University of Sri Jayawardenapura and a mentee in Ignite 6, entertained the crowd with a mash up of classical music. Mentors and mentees then spent some quality time getting to know each other and building up conversation to pave way for their mentoring journey.
The event was graced by below mentors who are registered for Ignite 6: CILT SL Chairperson Gayani de Alwis, Dr. Priyangani Jayasundara, Dr. Renuka Herath, Anoma Ranasinghe, Ravi Edirisinghe, Anushka Weeraratne, Niroza Gazzali, Chaminda Perera, Dhashma Karunaratne, Sathiyenthra Panchadcharam, Amra Zareer, Chanaka Gunathilake, Nevil Fernando, Dilmini Bandula Weragama and Mahesh Kurukulasuriya.
Event Chair and WiLAT SL Membership Development Vice Chairperson Maithree Attanayaka thanked the gathering for their support and commitment for Ignite 6. The event was sponsored by South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd.
The main objective of WiLAT is to promote and encourage the art and science of logistics and transport. WiLAT is a part of an ever expanding global network within CILT. The Global launch of WiLAT was held on 3 June 2013 in Sri Lanka during the CILT international convention.
Currently, WiLAT is present in 20 countries with over 2,000 members in the global network which is expanding rapidly. WiLAT Sri Lanka is one of the five pioneering fora of the global network and was established on 21 March 2013.
