Panditha Bandara receives Logohu Award

P.M.N. Bandara received the Member of Logohu award from the Governor General of Papua New Guinea Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae at the investiture ceremony held at the Government House.

Papua New Guinea’s own national honours and awards system, known as ‘The Order of Papua New Guinea’, was established in 2005 by authority of The Queen and Head of State of the Independent State of Papua New Guinean, Queen Elizabeth the Second. 

The meaning of the word Logohu is Bird of Paradise in one of the regional languages. Bird of Paradise is an iconic bird in PNG. This prestigious award is made to recognise distinguished service to the nation for a considerable period of time.

P.M.N. Bandara is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Head of Accounting Division of the University of Papua New Guinea. He has been awarded Member of Logohu for his contribution to higher education particularly accounting profession and accounting education in PNG during last 16 years. He is instrumental in introducing accounting to the secondary schools, restructuring bachelor of accounting degree program, introducing new degree programs in accounting. Further he has initiated partnership programs with local and overseas professional and academic institutions. 

He has been actively involved in distance education in accounting, secondary school teacher training, development of accounting and business skills for grassroots. He is also involved teaching, course material development, exam writing for Certified Practicing Accountants of PNG. Recently he was elected as a council member. He also serves as a member of governing bodies of several tertiary educational institutions. He is also the Chief Examiner of Grade 12 (equivalent to GCE AL) accounting.

Bandara has written 10 text books in business studies, accounting and economics for secondary schools, universities and other tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea. Prior to take up new job in PNG he has written nearly 30 books in these subjects, served as founder and chief editor of ‘Arthika Vidya’ fortnightly journal. He contributed newspapers by writing columns and leading articles in current business and economic affairs. He contributed Sunday Time’s business page for a long period. 

Bandara is appointed as the Hon. Consul for Sri Lanka in Papua New Guinea by the Sri Lanka Government. He serves as the President of Sri Lanka-Papua New Guinea Friendship Foundation.
