Heritage Expediciones Ltd Director Pierina David was awarded the prestigious Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 - Western Province Award in recognition of her commitment, dedication and contribution in improving Sri Lanka’s economy.
The Award was presented to her at the glamorous Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 awards ceremony held at the BMICH, Colombo.
Organised by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) for the 22nd consecutive year, the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year is Sri Lanka’s premier entrepreneurship awards ceremony, providing an opportunity for a broad range of businesses from across the country to celebrate and showcase their excellence. The competition attracts hundreds of entries every year from local entrepreneurs, under several award categories. The Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award is presented to women who have made significant contributions to Sri Lanka’s economic development, building a better tomorrow for our future generations.
A veteran in Sri Lanka’s travel, hospitality and destination management industries, Pierina David counts nearly 15 years of experience in the industry, serving several thousands of overseas travellers and promoting Sri Lanka’s heritage across the world through Heritage Expediciones, the company she founded together with her husband George, himself a veteran in the travel industry.
From humble beginnings in 2003 with just a handful of hardworking and loyal individuals, Heritage Expediciones has grown from strength to strength, and today is one of the most preferred and well-known destination management companies in Sri Lanka. David was selected as a winner among the dozens of other applications for this title by a distinguished panel of judges.
“I am indeed delighted, honoured and humbled to receive this award. This is not an individual achievement by any sense of the word. I am indeed indebted to our dynamic team at Heritage Expediciones for all the hard work and dedication they have put in to make all our successes a reality,” said David after receiving her award. “This award is reflective of the company’s reputation for being a fully customer-oriented destination management company, and we are indeed proud to showcase Sri Lanka and its many treasures to the world.”
In addition to her business efforts, Pierina is also a very active social worker and philanthropist. Her main interests lie in helping the less fortunate individuals and children of our society, in areas of education, nutrition, health, renewable energy and employment. She is constantly on the lookout for ways and means to empower Sri Lankan youth, often going out of her way and investing her own time and finances to assist those in need.
