University of Moratuwa has initiated an Inaugural Lecture Series bringing out newly-appointed professors to the public view. The objective is to communicate and inspire with their research and societal impact with of course the intention of generating more interaction and positive connectivity.
To a university academic an inaugural lecture is significant. An inaugural lecture represents a significant milestone in a university academics career when one observes the practice elsewhere. The event celebrates their promotion to the rank of professor or other professorship at the university.
University of Moratuwa, Faculty of Graduate Studies is hosting the event as a public event – with the current restrictions in place. As a hybrid event anyone who is interested can join in and celebrate a career in research as one prepares for even more contribution subsequently.
The inaugural lecture will offer both in-person and virtual access through Zoom and Facebook Live. Hopefully the awareness created with state and research institutes, academia and industry would further the cause of university society partnership for growth. University of Moratuwa also expects the event as an opportunity to connect with its alumni across oceans as well.
The fourth lecture in the series is by Professor Lalith Rajapakse of the Department of Civil Engineering and he will speak on ‘Is the Water Blue, Green or Colourless?’ on 25 November at 4 p.m. is the scheduled date for the fourth inaugural lecture.
