A platform for inspiration, insights coupled with entertainment for the youth (ages between of 16-24) to get feel on the formula for success to fast track their careers or succeed in entrepreneurship, WinFest Career Concert was held on 23 June.
The speakers lined up for the program were Yasas Hewage – Entrepreneur, Cyclist and Sales Coach, Makshoodh Meerasaibu – a Marketer, Sharon Mascarenhas – the Face and Voice of TV and Randhir Witana – Artist/Entrepreneur who anchored the importance of having imagination that would lead to creativity and innovation along with the quality of salesmanship.
The Ideators behind WinFest believe that the traditional education system is broken, where individuals are judged based on “knowledge based exams” (O/Ls and A/Ls) and categorised as winners or losers at a very early stage in life, while it’s a fact that success is achieved through lifelong education, experience and exposure.
At WinFest two formulas for success were revealed: First being ‘#FirstJobFormula’ and second being ‘#WinningFormula’.
The #FirstJobFormula: Get your first job where you will build your competency, while earing your currency which allows you to create your capital and building contacts while at it, this is a career you should choose, where you could fast track it or build a business later on.
The #WinningFormula: Wake-up each day looking to perform and find the right platform, yearn to achieve perfection and invest in practice and people and partnerships but search for your passion to help keep the fire burning. Stay close to your principles and someday link it all to a purpose that puts a stop to the confusion on the topic of work life balance as it becomes one and the same.
There is one more formula, which the Chief Ideator – Yasas Hewage, promotes heavily which is the #eFormula.
The E-Formula: Education is not merely qualifications and has to be continuous process, Exposure to be more valuable than experience and when coupled endurance and excitement will lead to an expertise that will be the winning formula that will work.
WinFest also initiated Pitch & Win competition, where anyone could pitch on anything it could be a hobby, their work, product, business or even something that they are passionate about. This competition was done with the intention of bringing awareness to the youth on being persuasive leading to salesmanship. The winners of Pitch & Win Season One was Tharushi Medawala at 1st place, Dulani Bandulahewa at 2nd place, Shenalka Gunasekera at 3rd Place winning, a trip to Singapore, an overnight stay in Mirrisa and a dinner for two at Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.
WinFest Career Concert will be a continuous series of program, which will be taken to different parts of the country while having the next event scheduled for October 2018.
