The Asian Association of Management Organisations (AAMO) will hold a Council meeting for the very first time in Sri Lanka, on Thursday 7 May, at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo. Founded in Melbourne in 1960, AAMO comprises 17 National Management Organisations (NMOs) in the Asia Pacific Region. The presidency of AAMO is currently held by the Australian Institute of Management (AIM), and is led by Bryan Nye. The AAMO Secretariat is currently headquartered in Canberra. The NMOs of Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Nepal, Cambodia, Mongolia, Philippines, Mauritius and Sri Lanka are some of the countries affiliated to AAMO. The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) is the National Management Organisation recognised by AAMO from Sri Lanka. The IMSL has the unique distinction of being the only NMO in AAMO that has been incorporated by an Act of Parliament. It was founded in 1978 by that legendary business personality, the late Mallory Wijesinghe, as the Sri Lanka Management Association, which was the precursor to the IMSL. The current President of the IMSL is Major General (Rtd) Upul Perera, who last year succeeded Anver Dole, who served as President from 2008 to 2014. Dole currently serves as a Director of AAMO. AAMO welcomed all delegates over dinner at the Cinnamon Grand on 6 May. The IMSL hosted all delegates, distinguished invitees and Council members to dinner the following day. Elaborate arrangements were made by IMSL to visit Parliament, the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and two leading exporters in the Biyagama FTZ. The delegates were also afforded the opportunity of visiting the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela, the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy and the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya.
