The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification, having identified 10 key competencies that make a complete finance professional, prepares their students to lead successful careers in their chosen field of work and empowers them with information, insight and skills that reflect the evolving times. With the financial scandals of the past only serving to illustrate just how important it is to have ethical standards in business, ACCA in one qualification that puts ethics at the heart of their qualification. The ACCA membership is also recognised as a standard of excellence by employers in every sector around the world. Many are those who have benefited by this qualification and have gained key positions in the various industries in both the corporate and business sector. S. Thumilan, the Founder and Group Chairman of the Blue Ocean Group, said: “Since my vision was to become a sole entrepreneur, my background in accountancy from ACCA was a solid foundation to achieve my goals with what I am today. With the insights and experience I gained from the ACCA qualification and their membership, I was able to execute my vision with a clear strategic direction on building a brand in construction in a short peak time. “ Speaking of the many successes he had gained, Thumilan said: “As a Group Chairman of Blue Ocean Group of Companies, I was privileged to be able to launch a gold accredited ACCA institute that has today a proven record of success in the industry and creating many young ACCA affiliates. Today Blue Ocean Group of Companies continue on the path towards sustained profitability and the creation of new business opportunities for the company and our customers around the world.” He added: “As an entrepreneur, I was very impressed with the depth of learning on the subjects and content that ACCA offers. ACCA in comparison to other qualifications tends to be more focused on financial accounting and technical practices of accountancy. Moreover, in ACCA a student is allowed to pick areas for his/her specialisation such as auditing, taxation, performance management and corporate finance. Consequently, industry evidence suggests that the ACCA qualification will give you a stronger grounding in accounting principles than any other accountancy qualification that is presently available in the market.” He further explained: “In early days, being a high official in top management is only considered eligible for the person who has completed MBA. However, with professional accountancy courses such as ACCA, it has resulted in many ACCA affiliates now enjoying such positions and demanding jobs in the early stages of their careers.” He also affirmed: “I have personally gained tremendously through this qualification by gaining knowledge to building strategies and pioneering approaches to the steps I could take to operate my business more efficiently and profitably.” Thumilan also pointed out: “Leadership of the finance function is changing. From effective financial stewardship of the organisation, through to strategy validation and execution, effective leadership in today’s finance function requires significant breadth of skills.  Hence it is very important to look into these implications and developing the capabilities now needed, that is required for the finance professional of the future. With more regulation, greater competition, wider risk, the digitisation of businesses and consumers and simply more complexity are shining a spotlight on how finance functions help businesses create and sustain value. I strongly believe that the ACCA qualification has the length, breath and comprehensiveness to cater to all these salient points.”
