The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) presented SJMS Associates with the Approved Employer Platinum status certificate recently, for the support it provides to employees who choose to train to become ACCA members. The ACCA award recognises SJMS Associates as a preferred employer within the accounting industry. Platinum Approved status is awarded to employers who meet the highest standards of best practices in six key areas including: study support, work experience requirements, supervision, appraisal and workplace development, training records and continuing development. Therefore in order for SJMS to receive accreditation at this level, they had to provide full financial support and be able to demonstrate senior management commitment to the training and development of finance staff. SJMS Associates Managing Partner M.B. Ismail accepted the award, from Head of ACCA Sri Lanka Nilusha Ranasinghe stating: “This is a major accolade for SJMS and recognises the learning and development opportunities we provide to our employees and affirms our conviction that well-trained, highly-motivated people are the core of the ongoing success of SJMS. “Our commitment to giving our employees every opportunity to develop their skills and grow their careers has helped us achieve this distinction and we will maintain our focus on being an excellent place to work.” Endorsing these statements, SJMS Associates Senior Partner Aruna Jayawickrema said: “We have always supported our staff in their professional development and training, not only whilst they are taking their professional qualifications, but also in their on-going development. “Our senior management teams at SJMS monitor the overall performance and development in the workplace, and have worked towards building the managers of tomorrow helping them to achieve their goals of becoming supervisors, managers, senior managers and ultimately partners. Finance people are fundamental to the organisation and we are keen that they develop both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies. ACCA’s accreditation provides us with a structure and the support to do this.” Head of ACCA Sri Lanka Nilusha Ranasinghe also added her comments by saying: “ACCA works closely with employers to promote the value of ACCA’s qualifications. Increasing employer demand for our students and members has contributed to ACCA becoming the world’s largest and fastest-growing international accounting body. This award will significantly enhance the mutually beneficial cooperation between our organisations and contribute towards increasing our financial experts’ training and qualification standards for the industry.” ACCA as the global body for professional accountants have always worked towards developing new collaborations and initiatives to support their members and students around the world, with the aim of helping them develop successful careers in accounting and business. They work through a network of offices and centres spread globally and with a large network of Approved Employers worldwide, who provide high standards of employee learning and development.
