Access Engineering successfully completes a series of university mentoring programs

Human capacity building is one of the key focus areas of Access Engineering PLC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program. Under the above platform, Access Engineering PLC successfully completed a series of university mentoring programs intended to modernise the learning experience of Sri Lankan university students through accreditation of soft skills. Mentoring Program University of Moratuwa   ‘Skills for Life,’ the mentoring program which aims to enrich the development of student’s soft skills through different activities such as lecturing, in-the-field activities, debates, discussions, etc., was initiated by Access Engineering PLC in 2013 at the University of Moratuwa mentoring over 175 students of Civil Engineering and Earth Resource Engineering. While the initial program was well received within the academia, it was awarded the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Program 2013 under the category of Training and Education by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Mentoring Program University of  Moratuwa 2014   The program was also extended to the University of Peradeniya and the University of Ruhuna mentoring a total of 270 students from their civil engineering faculties. The students were mentored by an assemblage of experienced corporate trainers and industry experts who are endeavoured towards enriching the students’ profiles with new employment-oriented skills and competencies. The complete program includes a series of lecturing sessions which are based upon developing the skills and competences needed by the market. Ethics, etiquettes, soft skills, team building, trust building and character building activities, civic consciences, and self-awareness programs are some of the key topics for discussions. The series of lecturing sessions were followed by a weekend retreat that brings the mentees outside the university premises to be trained to work in teams with effective self-establishment in different team cultures.
