The Achievers’ Forum was an event held at the Waters Edge, Battaramulla on the 7th November.

It was the Association of HR Professionals’ (HRP) final event for HR Awards 2012 and brought together the Special Award Winners of the Awards to share their expertise and let the HRM fraternity in the country know what they had done to make them winners.

The HRM Awards are held every two years and looked forward to eagerly by participating Companies. This year the Awards were announced in January, followed later by a programme of instruction to participating companies on the mechanics of entering the competition.

This time, HRP enlarged the scope of the Awards to include a category for the Public Sector recognising the fact that this sector too had been making great strides to improve their people managements systems and processes.

At the Awards ceremony in July 2012, 10 Gold winners and 10 Silver winners were announced in the Private Sector and 2 Silver winners in the Public Sector.

Apart from these, there were special Awards made in six key HRM areas to recognise outstanding practices in:

  • Talent Supply  - Won by Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC
  • Capability Growth – Won by Fonterra Brands Lanka (Pvt) Ltd
  • Leadership and Key Talent Capability – Won by HSBC Sri Lanka
  • Performance Management – Won by Standards Chartered Bank
  • Rewards & Recognition – Won by Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd
  • Employee Relationships & People Administration – Won by  Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd

These winners were invited by HRP to make presentations to enlighten participant HR professionals on their winning strategies/practices in their respective areas and also respond to questions from participants.

HRP also asked its content partner AON Hewitt – a global giant in HRM Consulting, who took care of the technical aspects of the Awards to share insights it gleaned from reviewing and analysing HRM practices of the Companies participating in the Awards.

Excellent presentations by 5 of the 6 winners and AON Hewitt made for a day of learning for the 300+ participant HRM professionals. It ended with over 60 questions being asked of these companies to clarify or ascertain their best practices.

HRM Awards have over the years been sponsored, helped and supported by many organisations and the Achievers’ Forum too was helped and supported by a number of organisations. HRP gratefully acknowledges those companies.
