Alumni from Moratuwa, Peradeniya engineering faculties unite for a common cause

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama will be delivering the annual oration at the Moratuwa and Peradeniya Engineers reunion which will be held on 2 August at the University of Peradeniya. Dr. Wickrama is a distinguished Engineering graduate from University of Moratuwa. A distinguished engineering graduate from University of Peradeniya Eng. Ranjith Premasiri, the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Highways, Road Development Authority Chairman and National Water Supply and Drainage Board Chairman, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. According to the Chairman Organising Committee or Mora Pera Engineer’s Reunion Eng. Damith Hettihewa who is also the coordinator for presidential taskforce on IT, Moratuwa and Peradeniya engineers have joined hands to synergise the collective strength of Sri Lankan engineers across the globe to collaborate and support engineering innovations and research in Sri Lanka. The inaugural Mora Pera Engineers Reunion was held in 2013 at the University of Peradeniya on 30 March 2013. The second Mora Pera Reunion is scheduled for Saturday 2 August at University of Peradeniya. “This is a very timely initiative. At a time all Sri Lankans are looking forward to a prosperous future for the country, every professional has a role to play in our economic development. The reunion of Moratuwa and Peradeniya engineering is a fine opportunity for engineers from various generations to re-establish contacts and network. The outcome of such collaborations should no doubt enhances their collective contribution to the Sri Lankan society at large,” said Eng. Dr Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman of Securities Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka. Dr. Godahewa is a distinguished engineering graduate from University of Moratuwa is also the Patron of Mora Pera Engineers Reunion. Eng Nihal Rupasinha Chairman of Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) which employs more than 800 engineers commented: “As we are aware, a larger percentage of Sri Lankan engineers work and live aboard. Building a global engineers network is a timely and commendable objective of Mora Pera Engineers Reunion initiative.” Eng Rupasinghe is the Patron of Mora Pera Engineers Reunion representing University of Peradeniya. The event is expected to be attended by a large number of engineers from Sri Lanka as well as from abroad. The Mora Pera Cricket encounter for the Sir Arthur C. Clarke Memorial Trophy will also be played at Peradeniya University Grounds following the annual oration.
