Amba to enhance knowledge and employability of students of DFin
Amba Research and the Department of Finance (DFin) at the University of Kelaniya have entered into an agreement to share Amba’s expertise in global investment research and capital markets training. The purpose of this venture is to enhance the knowledge and employability of the students of DFin. Amba’s experience in conducting investment research, including analysing industry attractiveness and financial statements, building financial models, and valuing equity stocks for global investment banks and asset management clients, will help deepen the students’ understanding of these areas. In addition, the Amba Research Training Institute has experience in training over 1,000 capital market participants in several countries, including Sri Lanka, India, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
Amba’s equity analysts support sell-side and buy-side research teams in areas including coverage initiation and maintenance, sector and thematic research, financial modelling, news and event analysis, new product development, research marketing, and quantitative equities.
Guest lectures
In line with the partnership agreement, Amba will conduct guest lectures at its premises, which include state-of-the-art training facilities, to share its expertise in areas such as industry analysis and valuation, and provide the students the opportunity to experience Amba’s dynamic corporate culture. Amba’s CFA charterholders will provide support in reviewing DFin’s formal degree programs, as well as the programs conducted by its Investment Research Unit. Amba will also provide internships and employment opportunities to the best-performing students, subject to the company’s rigorous selection process.
Department of Finance Head Dr. Susima Weligamage commented on the partnership, “We, the DFin Team, have identified that higher education is going through a paradigm shift in the 21st Century. Education and training needs of future leaders are changing. Therefore, initiating university-industry partnerships are important. This MoU marks the beginning of strong collaboration with Amba. It includes a number of very productive initiatives. Outcomes of this collaboration will help to produce nationally and internationally competitive leaders for finance job market.”
Future leaders of capital markets

We have been working closely with DFin since last year and today’s formal signing of our knowledge sharing agreement will further strengthen our effort to support DFin and its students.”The University of Kelaniya is a major state university in Sri Lanka. The university consists of 6 faculties and 44 academic departments, and caters to approximately 8,000 internal and 30,000 external degree students. It has approximately 600 academic and 650 non-academic staff members. The University of Kelaniya celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009.
