AUW to host women’s empowerment and education event in Colombo

  • AUW Vice Chancellor to address women’s empowerment leaders and educators
  On Tuesday 28 October, Dr. Fahima Aziz, the Vice Chancellor of the Asian University for Women (AUW) located in Chittagong, Bangladesh will host ‘Educate. Inspire. Empower: An Evening for Women’s Education and Empowerment’ in Colombo. The event will bring together women’s empowerment leaders and educators from across sectors, in support of strengthening regional networks in these fields. Dr. Aziz has led the university for the past two years and was the Endowed Alkire Chair in International Business at Hamline University in Minnesota, USA. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College, a Masters from the University of Massachusetts, and a PhD from the University of Minnesota – all in economics. She chaired the Departments of Management and Economics at Hamline University for ten years and concurrently led the environmental studies program there for seven years. AUW provides exemplary young women from 16 countries across Asia and the Middle East, including Sri Lanka, with the opportunity to graduate from a dynamic international liberal arts curriculum as innovative professionals and service-oriented leaders in their businesses, communities, and the world at large. AUW graduates are seen as promoters of intercultural understanding and sustainable human and economic development, having matriculated in an education model that fosters active learning, critical thinking, creativity of thought and vision, and ethical leadership. Students from AUW have been called to participate in top global youth platforms including the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations, Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, and One Young World Summit.
