Berendina, Jetwing Hotels collaborate to provide hospitality industry training

To deserving youth in Batticaloa district
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Berendina Employment Center (BEC) and Jetwing Hotels to provide hospitality industry skills development for youth in the Eastern province. The main objective of this collaborative project is to increase employment and employability among youth in the Eastern province in the hospitality industry.
The MoU for the project was signed on 9 October by Berendina Group Chairman Dulan De Silva and Jetwing Hotels Head of Human Resources Kanchana Nanayakkara.
The total value of the project is Rs. 1,000,000. Jetwing Hotels will incur Rs. 575,000 towards the initiative, while BEC will incur Rs. 425,000 towards the project.
Under the terms of the agreement, BEC will select 25 deserving youth from the Eastern province for this training program ensuring that at least 30% of these youth are females. The selected youth will be provided training in the areas of food and beverage, kitchen, housekeeping and front office by Jetwing Hotels and all curriculum development and trainings will be provided by Jetwing Hotels.
The necessary technical trainings for these youth will be conducted by a qualified and well experienced panel of lecturers from the hotel industry. In addition, Jetwing will also organise exposure visits to help broaden the perspectives of these youth in the field of hotel management. Upon completion of successful training Jetwing will recruit these youth to positions within the Jetwing hotels group.
BEC will provide Rs. 2,000 per month for a period of three months to each student undergoing the training program and also bear expenses related to soft skills and English language training for these youth.
