British Council and M.D. Gunasena unveil ‘British Council Wall’

An artsy, interactive and educational wall was unveiled last week at the British Council by British Council Sri Lanka Director Tony Reilly, M.D. Gunasena and Company Private Limited Chairman Percy Gunasena and Managing Director Rajiv Gunasena.

This large wall of creative artwork was conceptualised and designed by four talented design students from three design colleges: Chathurangi De Silva from University of Moratuwa, Ruwangi Amarasinghe and Shanika Perera from the Academy of Design (AOD) and Indrajith Abeysena from Raffles Institute of Higher Education.

The ‘British Council Wall’ was created to uplift the mood of the members, parents and teachers while the refurbishment takes place. Moreover, it stands as a welcoming and inviting sight for the visitors.

As far as the time factor is considered, the concept was brought in by the designers in a week, while the designing process took up to six weeks for the designers to finish. The concept moves along the lines of English, Society, Arts, and Education that was depicted into ocean, land, sky and space.

When asked Deputy Managing Director of M. D. Gunasena why British Council and M. D. Gunasena partnered on this project, Gunasena said, “We partnered to create synergy. It was the perfect marriage between the two organisations. And of course British Council is well known for promoting the arts.”
