CA Sri Lanka member Channa Gunasekera wins IPM People’s Leader – Finance award

Chief Finance Officer of South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd, Channa P.A. Gunasekera was honoured with the prestigious ‘People’s Leader in Finance 2014’ award by the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) at a gala ceremony held recently during the sidelines of the annual National Human Resources Conference. Channa, a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) was honoured for his significant contributions made towards the finance sphere as well as in developing the organisations he has served for, and for uplifting and supporting the performances of his teams. An old boy of Royal College, Channa is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK and is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Counting for over 20 years of experience in the areas of finance, assurance, strategy, project management, commercial, business development, human resources and business start-ups; Channa commenced his career at Ernst and Young in 1994 as an Audit/Accounts Trainee, where he went on to become an Assistant Manager. Channa also spearheaded the financial arms of several leading blue-chip companies such as Browns & Company PLC and John Keells Holdings PLC. He also served as the Chief Financial Officer for Sri Lanka and Maldives at the Hongkong& Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. Channa is a former Member of Council of CA Sri Lanka and was also a Financial Specialist on a voluntary basis for the Strategic Enterprise Management Agency of the Government of Sri Lanka. Apart from his position as CFO, he is also the Acting General Manager of Human Resources at the South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) Ltd. SAGT operates the Queen Elizabeth quay in the Port of Colombo, and is a BOI flagship status entity.
