The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has invited internationally-renowned psychologist Adrian McInman to conduct a workshop on ‘Working with Happiness: How professionals can utilise simple, effective and time-efficient psychological techniques’ in Colombo on 16 January. Adrian McInman, or Adrian as he prefers to be called, is an Australian who set up a business (Happier Horizons; www.happierhorizons.com) in New York in 2005, which conducts group education courses all over the world with the aim of improving the performance of organisations, stimulating personal development, and increasing happiness.   He has seven university qualifications (including post-graduate qualifications in sport psychology, clinical psychology, and suicide prevention) and gained full registration with both the Psychology Board of Australia and the Queensland Psychology Board. To date he has donated his time with 86 organisations in the following 13 countries: Antigua, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, England, Ghana, Greece, Guyana, India, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Trinidad, and United States. He will conduct a five-hour workshop for the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on Friday 16 January between 1 and 6 p.m. His workshop ‘Working with happiness: How professionals can utilise simple, effective, and time-efficient psychological techniques’ will initially highlight the disastrous impact of dysfunctional thinking on professionals and businesses, before positively focusing on the power of happiness. Next the audience will learn, hands-on, three practical psychological techniques to avoid dysfunctional thinking. After a break, they will have their eyes truly opened when they see information clearly showing how there is no such thing as stress! According to Amanda Beepat, Chief Executive Officer of Allied Insurance Brokers Ltd. in Kingston, Jamaica, who recently participated in five days of Adrian’s workshops, not only is this some of the most useful information provided, but it stands in stark contrast from typical stress management trainings.   After more research proof has been provided demonstrating the most effective ways to increases happiness, the professionals will learn how to increase happiness with optimism, affirmations, and the highly effective Happier Horizons Thought Stoppage technique. As a result, the audience is likely to do as Amanda has done and include many of Adrian’s techniques in monthly management meetings, staff meetings, and strategic retreats. The workshop has been organised to deal with typical problems Sri Lankan businesses are currently facing, such as employee turnover, insufficient productivity, inadequate innovation, resistance to change, and difficulties with prioritising; however, the solutions offered will not only be fully supported by research, but revolutionary and state of the art.   The audience will have their curiosity aroused, walk away energized, want to implement the techniques immediately and be sufficiently proficient in the skills they can teach their employees with. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce could be contacted on [email protected] for details and prior registration.
