The Young Chartered Accountants Forum (YCAF) Governing Council for the year 2016/17 was appointed recently with Chartered Accountant Vindya Cooray being at the helm and heading the Forum as its new President.
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) President Lasantha Wickremasinghe speaking at the General Assembly of YCAF emphasised that every country, organisation and family needs a younger generation to continue its existence and the same applies to a profession.
“To ensure the continued progression of our profession, we need highly intelligent and skilled members for our existence, and our profession has been truly fortunate to have both intelligence and skills in our young members,” he told members of the YCAF which comprises of chartered accountants who are below 40 years of age.
Wickremasinghe said that as the young generation of the chartered accounting profession, it was the responsibility of the young members not to limit to discharging their duties only to the organization they serve for, but they should also play an active role in helping steer and ensuring that the prestigious legacy CA Sri Lanka commands today continues in the future.
“Although we always look up to our seniors for guidance, it is ultimately the dynamic younger generation that will steer us to the future, hence ensuring that you are second to none is your institute’s primary duty,” he said.
He also congratulated YCAF including its outgoing YCAF President Dulitha Perera for the dynamic role played in uniting young CA Sri Lanka members.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Cooray said that young chartered accountants play a vital role in shaping the future. “So the aim of YCAF is to provide a platform for young members to develop their leadership and entrepreneurial skills by conducting various programmes in these areas and providing them opportunities to network with their fellow colleagues,” she said.
