Chitral Rahul Jayawarna has been appointed as a Non-Executive Independent Director at Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka PLC (MBSL) with effect from 30 December 2013. The appointment has been approved by the Central Bank.
Jayawarna is a young professional marketer and a social worker whose enlightened objective is to establish a just and egalitarian society. He currently serves in serves in several organisations in the capacity of Chairman, Secretary, and Executive Committee Member.
Jayawarna joined the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in 2008 as a Senior Manager in the Marketing and Business Development Division and he is the youngest Senior Manager serving in the middle level management at Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
Prior to his current assignment at SLPA, joining at the age of 31 years, Jayawarna worked at the Youth Corps Head Quarters which falls within the purview of the Ministry of Skills Development and Public Enterprise Reforms in the capacity of Deputy Director (Industrial Relations and Information Technology). He was the youngest Deputy Director in Youth Corps at that time.
He was engaged with the Sri Lankan Youth in 39 training centres island-wide for job placement and skills development activities in youth.
Apart from this, he worked at PC House as an Accountant Manager Public Sector and with Informatics as a Marketing Trainee and was later promoted to the post of Marketing Executive and Business Development Executive respectively before he completed his university studies.
Jayawarna received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2003 majoring in Economics with International Relations and Demography. In 1997 he completed the Diploma in International Relations at Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies. He completed his Post Graduate Studies in Business Management at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo and in Year 2011 he completed his Masters in Business Studies at the same university. He is also an Associate Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.
In his university career, he actively involved with social activities as a Career Guidance Coordinator in the Faculty of Arts and Worked as a Faculty Board Member (student Union Representative) for the faculty of Arts.
With the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of MBSL PLC comprises M.R. Shah (Chairman), M.S.S. Paramananda, P.G. Rupasinghe, L. De Silva, D.M. Gunasekara, K.B.S. Bandara, W.P.R.P.H. Fonseka (alternate to Gunasekara) and C.R. Jayawarna.
