CIMA Directors and CEOs forum on role of taxation in economic development

Tax policy of a country is paramount to its path to economic development. Taxes play a vital part in reduction of inequity of the distribution of income, promoting social welfare, resource mobilisation, regional development and in attracting foreign exchange.
Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion Faizer Mustapha is scheduled to deliver the key note address at the forum.
The presentation focusing on key thought areas would be delivered by KPMG Principal – Tax & Regulatory Suresh R.I. Perera, followed by a panel discussion with renowned corporate leaders who share their views on the role of taxation in economic development.
Panel discussion will be moderated by Brandix Lanka Ltd Chief Financial Officer Hasitha Premaratne.
The eminent panel will consist of Kabir Hashim, Member of Parliament, Chairman of United National Party and Economist; Mangala P.B. Yapa, Secretary General/CEO, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce; Sumal Perera, Chairman/CEO, Access Group; Economist Dr. Anura Ekanayake and the speaker Suresh R.I. Perera.
The discussion areas includes tax strategy for development – are we on the right path?; Direct tax vs indirect taxes – what is the way forward; Tax administration and the road to a new tax culture.
The forum is scheduled to be held on Thursday 16 October 2014 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) at the JAIC Hilton.
