It was a memorable occasion for young Partheepan Shyamsunthar (Colombo International School – Kandy), latest student to be placed by Scholarships for USA Ltd (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) at the University of Cincinnati (www.uc.edu) with its Global Scholarship (to study Electrical Engineering) when introduced to Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC. MD/CEO Kishu Gomes. Sharing his life experience with the youngster, Kishu told him how smart Sri Lankans are one on one, on a level playing field like in US and the importance of “keeping the eye on the ball and foreseeing the images of success down the journey for self motivation” all the time and setting realistically optimistic goals to pursue relentlessly. “Do not try to be a copy cat but learn from everyone who has something unique to offer in terms of personal attributes – emulate what’s most relevant and build your own mix of strengths for maximum value creation,” he added. Considered a top CEO of the island having won many national and international awards for leadership, Kishu is also a past President of American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka.
University of Cincinnati is among the top 25 public research universities in the nation and among the top 200 research universities globally. As pioneers of cooperative education (paid hands on work experience in industry – currently ranked 4th in the nation) giving its graduates a huge advantage of securing global employment opportunities immediately upon graduation, UC has become increasingly popular in Sri Lanka ever since it was introduced to the island by Scholarships for USA (Pvt) Ltd. in ‘07. The other accolades it has won places UC in the top tier of ‘Best National Universities’, among the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education and among the world’s most beautiful campuses.
SUSA, since its inception in ‘01 has been passionately committed to promote US higher education to the furthest corners of the island. Its mission has been to make US education increasingly affordable and accessible to the largest segment of Lankan youth. Its commitments have also resulted in attracting schools such as UC to SL and facilitating many institutional collaborations making 2+2 transfers possible. UC has two of those running in SL – with the Institute of Chemistry and SLIIT.
When asked about the guidance received from SUSA, Partheepan said he found SUSA passionately committed, very professional and totally focused on his success. “Were accessible 24/7, amazingly quick to respond and genuinely made my education affordable,” he added.
