The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) have joined hands with the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka to impart their knowledge to students and the youth, contributing to the progress of the accounting profession as well as the invaluable role that accountants will play in businesses in the future.

This venture has created a path which offers exemptions to students of Wayamba University to gain the much acclaimed management accounting expertise at an affordable cost available only via CMA.  This enables undergraduates and graduates to commence CMA at any level completed, paving the way for them to obtain a professional qualification recognised by the South Asian Management Accounting bodies, CGA Canada, ACCA (UK), and CPA Australia.

These initiatives place emphasis in their mission of enhancing and offering better opportunities to students and will undoubtedly contribute to the development of the accountancy profession in the country. The Institute of CMA Sri Lanka was set up in the year 1999 with technical assistance of CMA Canada.  CMA was incorporated by Parliament Act No. 23 of 2009 in April 2009 and is the National Professional Management Accounting Institution in Sri Lanka. CMA has todate over 15,000 students and 2,000 members. The institute promotes and develops the study of management accounting, financial accounting and conducts the certified management accounting program leading to a professional management accounting qualification.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. S.J.B.A. Jayasekera, signing the MOU on behalf of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka said that this MOU would benefit undergraduate students to gain their professional qualifications while studying at the University at an affordable cost and pass out as a recognised professional at the completion of their four-year study period at the University.  He thanked CMA for the assistance rendered to the University undergraduates/graduates through the MOU.  This would also make the graduates more employable.

President of CMA Sri Lanka Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, stated that this tie up of CMA and Wayamba University of Sri Lanka will pave the way for Graduates / Undergraduates of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka to be more employable accountancy professionals who will contribute to the economic growth of Sri Lanka.
