‘CMA National Management Accounting Conference’ and ‘CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards 2

The CMA National Management Accounting Conference 2017 will be hosted by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka, the National Professional Management Accounting Institution incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 23 of 2009, which will join hands with the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) Sri Lanka as the National Partner. The conference will be held from 17-19 July at Kings Court, Cinnamon Lakeside.

The inauguration of the conference on the theme ‘Digital Transformation – A New Strategic Imperative’ and the ‘CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards 2017’ will be held on  17 July at 6 p.m. at Cinnamon Lakeside.

The inaugural session will have two eminent keynote speakers from overseas Richard Howitt the CEO of International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and Prof. Ho Yew Kee Associate Provost (SkillsFuture and Staff Development) Singapore Institute of Technology.

Prof. Ho Yew Kee will deliver his keynote address on the topic ‘Digital Transformation in the Accounting Profession’.  



Some of the areas covered will include

  • There is plenty of evidence that technological advances are affecting what jobs are in demand. High-skill positions that often take advantage of computers are growing, as are low-skill jobs doing work, such as home health care, that is difficult to automate. Many mid-skill jobs, however, are disappearing.
  • The fastest-growing jobs in the US from 2000 to 2010 reflect the demand for highly technical skills and those lower-skill jobs that are hard to automate. Highly routine jobs are especially vulnerable to automation.
  • The workforce will have to be re-tooled so as to stay relevance for a much longer period of time unless they have saved enough for a longer retirement.
  • Very purposeful and dedicated professional program is required to ensure that a deep talent pool of skilled accountants is available. A formal recognition for the pool of skilled accountants both in the Public and Private Sector.
  • Professor Ho Yew Kee is the Associate Provost (SkillsFuture and Staff Development) of the latest government university in Singapore, namely, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). In his current position, he oversees the training of adults as part of Singapore’s continued development of her workforce (called SkillsFuture). He also oversees the development of the teaching staff at the university. Concurrently, he is also Professor of Accounting at SIT.

Professor Ho was previously Professor of Accounting and the Head, Department of Accounting of the NUS Business School, The National University of Singapore

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) is organising the ‘CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards 2017’ for the third consecutive year and The keynote speaker on ‘Integrated Reporting in a Digital Environment’ will be Richard Howitt Chief Executive Officer International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC). 

The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) the world body has issued the <IR> framework in December 2013. The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) is a global coalition of regulators, investors, companies, standard setters, the accounting profession and NGOs. The coalition is promoting communication about value creation as the next step in the evolution of corporate reporting.

The purpose of the Excellence in <IR> Awards is to promote Sri Lankan companies, banks, finance and insurance companies especially those listed, unlisted and state owned enterprises, small and medium sector to undertake Integrated Reporting which will be of immense benefit to investors and stakeholders. 

The awards will be presented at the inauguration ceremony of the CMA National Management Accounting Conference on 17 July 2017 Sector Awards:

The CEO of the IIRC Richard Howitt is a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for over 20 years and lead-MEP on corporate responsibility. Howitt has represented the EU on many missions worldwide, travelling extensively in Asia, Africa and the Americas. He has represented European interests in numerous international initiatives, including the UN Business and Human Rights Forum and the OECD Forum on Responsible Business Conduct. He will also address a workshop on Integrated Reporting specially meant for public quoted companies, state corporations, private companies, non profit making institutions on 18 July at 5:30.
