The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Malaysian Accountants (MIA) at the MIA International Conference held in Kuala Lumpur recently.
The MOU was signed by CMA Sri Lanka President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala and MIA President John Idris.
MIA is the body that is mandated to regulate and develop the accountancy profession in Malaysia. CMA is the national professional management accounting body in Sri Lanka, incorporated by an Act of Parliament and responsible for the cost and management accounting profession and the setting of management accounting standards in Sri Lanka.
The MOU provides for promoting mutual co-operation for the advancement of the accounting profession and to share information, co-operation in the professional accountancy training, education, research and continuing professional development. They will also participate and extend invitations for conferences, symposia and workshops of common interest.
They will exchange journals, syllabuses, examination papers and answers, continuing education programs which will be beneficial to both members and students. This will also include the conduct of joint continuing professional development (CPD) programs, participation in these activities, making available online CPE programs to members conducted by either party.
There will also be regular consultation between the two parties by the appointment of a liaison committee to plan and follow up on activities to be undertaken and implemented.
