Speaking at the event, Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr. Nawaratne emphasised that managing human capital was far more crucial than the management of a company’s finances. “I am very happy that IPM is working towards that end (developing managers of human capital). Their process of regularly revising their curriculum will make IPM one of the country’s leading institutes. They are doing a great service to the nation,” he added. The participants displayed their skills, knowledge and understanding in various spheres of human resources management and other pertinent themes over five rounds containing ten questions on General HRM, Labour and International Law, Leadership, Management, Training and Development and Talent Management and one round of Current Affairs and Sports, which added variety to the competition. The Institute of Personnel Management President Rohitha Amarapala stated that the primary objective of the Great HR Quiz 2014 was to take the Human Resource Management profession in Sri Lanka to a new level by creating awareness of the need to be dynamic in an ever-changing business and Human Resource Management landscape. “It is indeed encouraging that the first-ever HR quiz was able to attract such wide participation from different sectors of the business community, which underscores the great value that IPM brings to the field of Human Resources Management in Sri Lanka,” he added. IPM was founded in 1959 and was subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976. The Institute has developed to be the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka and has contributed significantly to develop and nurture the Human Resource Management profession in the country. IPM is affiliated to the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Human Resources Management and is also affiliated to the World Federation of People Management Association. IPM, being a professional institute, is a constituent member of the Organization of Professional Associations [OPA] Sri Lanka. Currently IPM possesses more than 900 professional members who serve in both public and private organisations as well as approximately 7,000 students who follow diverse programs on human resources offered by IPM and its regional study centres throughout the country.  Pic by Sameera Wijesinghe
