The stepping stone towards becoming a management professional   The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) is planning to launch an Executive Diploma in Management (EDM) in mid-March this year to cater to the needs of young managers who aspire to climb up the corporate ladder. The proposed Executive Diploma is undoubtedly the only management qualification offered by a professional institution together with a work placement exposure. Therefore, this is an ideal introductory course for students who are planning to pursue their higher education in the field of management, which is a fast growing area of specialisation in both local and multinational companies. IMSL was incorporated by act of parliament no 67 on 17 December 1988 and has full membership of the Asian Association of Management Organisations (AAMO), which is a partnership of National Management Organisations (NMO) in the Asian region whose purpose is to promote, facilitate and support the development of professional management in the Asia Pacific Region. The current 17 members of AAMO include Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mongolian, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. Due to this partnership, IMSL has the benefit of being updated with the latest scientific management developments incorporated in the curriculum. Today’s business world requires talented individuals who are equipped with sound technical knowledge on myriad of management subjects as well as soft skills. In this respect, the curriculum of the Executive Diploma in Management has been designed with the prime objective of achieving a delicate balance of both these aspects. The Executive Diploma in Management is a qualification in its own right. The program has been designed in keeping with the requirements of Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) Level 3 of the Ministry of Higher Education. EDM is a one year program that offers 30 credits. Therefore, it is envisaged that this qualification could be used as an entry route for the 1st year of a Bachelor’s degree program or any other similar degree program offered either locally or internationally. The program will consist of 16 subjects along with an independent research component and will be delivered in four quad semesters. Lectures will be held only on weekends. This is mainly in order to accommodate those working students to follow the program without compromising their work life as well as to give those school leavers the opportunity to continue to pursue the program even after finding employment opportunities. Lectures will be delivered by an eminent panel of teachers that comprises of business leaders and academia, which will also give an opportunity to share rich experiences from real life work scenarios. The first batch of students for the course will commence their studies on 8 March at the IMSL premises and students will be enrolled on first come first served basis (due to availability of limited seats). Therefore we would like to request the potential candidates to get enrolled in this prestigious professional qualification.
