On 4 and 5 November 2014, the Institute of Lean Management Ltd (ILM) will hold a two day conference at the Waters Edge to promote world class practices in the manufacturing and service sectors, inviting local and foreign speakers to discuss Lean Management. The Institute of Lean Management Ltd. was set up in 2009 with the mission of improving quality, cost and delivery of manufacturing processes by eliminating all sorts of waste and developing human resources to assure the capability and sustainability of the organisation. In the past, there has been an emphasis only on the manufacturing sector, but as of this year, it has catered towards the Service Sector. The ILM has offered services to leading organisations in Sri Lanka and more than 600 professionals graduated as Lean and TPM practitioners. This summit will be the first ever such event to be held in Sri Lanka. Over these two days, participants can learn directly from Lean Leaders who are making real change and getting tangible and intangible results in how they deliver and pay for products and services. The summit will focus on areas such as knowledge sharing, best practices, coaching, lean concepts and tools such as TPM and Six Sigma. The Sri Lanka Summit will be modeled on the Lean Institute Summit held annually in the USA by leading promoters and practitioners of Lean Methodology which is an annual event. There are already a number of Lean, Process Excellence, Six Sigma Summits held over the world on an annual basis to promote a forum and discussion point for these subject areas. At the Summit at Waters Edge, there will be technical papers delivered by local and foreign speakers and a presentation on Lean, TPM and Six Sigma. Companies can also forward to the institute, their success stories and case studies so that those who have delivered the most profitable and innovative changes can be recognised and awarded. There is a ceiling set on the number of attendees so that all participants will have ample time for discussions or to ask presenters follow-up questions. This Lean Summit is designed to be the best networking venue in Sri Lanka by providing formal and informal ways for participants to connect with counterparts facing the same challenges. There will also be lunch roundtable discussions and networking breaks.  The theme of the Summit is ‘Strengthening National Productivity through Lean Management’ The focus areas of the summit are: Lean concepts, How to Inculcate and Sustain Lean Culture, Lean Leadership, The Role of Human Resources in Lean Transformation, Right Management Infrastructure for Lean, Developing Front Line Leadership for Lean, Lean Hospital and Lean Banking and also Why Lean Transformation efforts fail at times. We will be calling for Technical Papers and Individual Registrations for the Summit from August. Companies can submit case studies on their focus areas with the presentation description in brief to [email protected] for 2013, 2014 with immediate effect. The institute will send the Authors Kit with standard format and guidelines after selecting the proposal.
