Dhakshayanee Thieeran – Accounts Executive at MAS Holdings/Lecturer at Mercury, recounts her journey with ACCA at Mercury. She is a Certified Accounting Technician, an ACCA Affiliate and holds a First Class BSc. (Hons) in Applied Accounting from the Oxford Brookes University.

The ability to shine as an outstanding student by scoring the highest in Sri Lanka and winning a few Sri Lankan prizes with excellent world ranks would not have been possible for someone like me with no prior accounting knowledge if not for the dedication shown by the best panel of lecturers and support given to me which encouraged me to set high standards. The friendly environment at Mercury assists students to interact with lecturers and excel in their ACCA journey.
“The determination to complete CAT, ACCA and BSc. (Hons) in Applied Accounting with a First Class within three years became a reality only because of their encouragement and support given to me in numerous ways despite all the challenges I faced. The success of other exceptional students at Mercury inspired me to develop as an outstanding young achiever and the sound foundation enabled me to also obtain the World Prize in Edexcel A/L Accounting with a perfect score. Hence, they were the strength that helped me become who I am today and gain the recognition and achievements that I did. I believe that choosing Mercury to set the foundation for my career aspirations was one of the best decisions I made in my life.”
Having accomplished the first step in her career of completing the globally recognised professional accountancy qualification, Dhakshayanee joined the global audit firm KPMG. She says that the knowledge she possessed made it easier for her to perform remarkably over the two years of her tenure that resulted in earning recognition among her clients.
She is currently employed at MAS Holdings, the leading company in the apparel industry as part of the finance department. “The professional competence, capability of being able to handle any task and other skills I learned at Mercury encourages me to discover more opportunities and I hope to move up the corporate ladder by reading for a MBA in the future,” she said.
She also stated that she was fortunate to be given the opportunity to lecture at Mercury. “I could say that it was the knowledge and experience I gained from Mercury that helps me today tocoach other students to the extent of producing a few more Sri Lankan prize winners and I am extremely glad to realise that I am today in a position to contribute in some way towards Mercury’s goal of achieving the prestigious ACCA Platinum Status,” she said.
