With an aim of building a great team and great place to work, the Galle Face Hotel, together with the assistance of the Great Place to Work Institute, conducted a two-day interactive ‘journey’ workshop for middle and senior managers that focused on the quality of interactions between managers and their teams.
The sessions were conducted recently by senior associate Anantadeb Bandyopadhyay of the institute. The program for 25 participants delved into transforming everyday interactions into opportunities to build trust among their teams. Some of the lessons taught included the importance of acknowledging team talent, practicing behaviour that maintains and increases trust and encouraging teams to share ideas and innovations.
The management of Galle Face Hotel also conceptualised P.R.I.D.E. as the umbrella branding for all hotel team members’ action and activity. P.R.I.D.E. stands for building ‘Positive Relationships with Integrity, Dignity and through Engagement’. The objectives being to deliver a strong leadership pipeline, to develop organisational capabilities and highly-skilled motivated team members and finally an engaged team to set the mood for the entire work culture in preparation of the re-launch of the hotel upon completion of the restoration program.
The Galle Face Hotel recognises that having a great team is the key to delivering great guest service and P.R.I.D.E. is an integral part of this.
Galle Face Hotel General Manager Tony Fleming noted: “A team that is engaged in P.R.I.D.E. evokes feelings of excitement with the passion to work hard and build and maintain a foundation of a truly great place to work. This is what we want the Galle Face Hotel to continue to be.”
