President’s Counsel Dr. Harsha Cabral has been appointed to the Board of Browns Investments Plc as an Independent Non Executive Director.
He fills the casual vacancy created consequent to the resignation of A.G. Weerasinghe on 8 May 2014.
Dr. Cabral holds a PhD in Corporate Law (University of Canberra) Australia. He is a Senior Counsel in Corporate Law with 24 years of experience specialising in Company Law, Intellectual Property Law, Commercial Law, International Trade Law and Commercial Arbitration.
He serves as a Commissioner, Law Commission of Sri Lanka. he is a Member of the Advisory Commission in Company Law, Sri Lanka (key member in drafting the new Companies Act No 7 of 2007), National Council for Economic Development – Legal Cluster), and Ministerial Committee appointed to reform the Law on Commercial Arbitration.
He is also a Council member of the University of Colombo, member of the Board of Studies – the Council of Legal Education, member of the Academic Board of Studies of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of its Corporate Governance Committee as well.
Browns Investments said considering his profile, Dr. Cabral will share his knowledge and expertise acting independently creating a Board balance which will take the company to greater heights.
Following the appointment, the Board of Directors of Browns Investments Plc comprises Ishara Nanayakkara (Executive Chairman), P.R. Saldin (MD/CEO), D.S.K. Amarasekera, R.P. Sugathadasa, S. Furkhan, S.V. Somasunderam, W.D.K. Jayawardena, K.U. Amarasinghe, and Dr. Harsha Cabral PC.
