Holcim (Lanka) Ltd., the local representation of global cement manufacturer Holcim, recently tied up with the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM), Sri Lanka’s premier HRM education provider.
As a result of this collaboration, Holcim Academy, the training and development initiative of HLL together with IPM launched a Front-line Management Program (FLMP) for front-line staff employed at Holcim Lanka.
This highly-relevant introduction to the training and development offering of Holcim Academy places great emphasis on creating value for front-line staff in order to achieve the high levels or efficacy expected from the job.
The role played by front-line staff has proven to be crucial within the framework of an organisation’s operations and to this effect the training and development of front-line staff has been deemed a critical objective that the FLMP is prepared to address.

The program itself identifies the need to strengthen the front-line operation at Holcim Lanka through a structured training program that explores both theoretical knowledge applicable for the job role as well as in depth practical skills that are essential for effective front-line management.
Further to the fundamentals of management and operations, the course structure also includes an introduction to the industry framework and financial aspects of the operation.
“We have identified the key role played by the front-line teams and as a responsible catalyst of talent development; Holcim Academy has come forward to formulate a well-structured program. Holcim Academy was founded with the mission of providing certifications and creating a standardisation framework for development of talent in order to gain access to a well-trained, recognised talent pool. The FLMP is a step in the right direction for Holcim Academy and we are glad to have partnered this venture,” commented Shiran Perera, Manager Learning and Development – Holcim Academy.
The Holcim Academy has continued to sign key tie-ups with leading educational service providers in the past, having garnered partnerships with PIM, NAITA and other institutes in the past. The Holcim Academy objective of providing recognised qualifications has progressed in leaps and bounds with a diversified portfolio of programs now under its curriculum.
“We firmly believe in the mission that Holcim Academy is pursuing and we are more than happy to have been able to partner them on the mission to uplifting the standards of front-line management currently available to the country. We are confident in the eventual success of this program and are looking forward to implementing the planned program,” stated Chandima Pinsiri, Manager Consultancy, Research and Policy Development – IPM Sri Lanka.
The course curriculum will be implemented jointly through the expert resource panel from IPM headed by Gnanawansa Weerathunga, as the Course Co-ordinator – Academic and the Holcim Lanka internal trainers. This access to sound expertise in the area of front-line management provides the participants the opportunity to achieve an in-depth knowledge of the subject from a theoretical as well as practical aspect.
The front-line management program was launched by representatives of Holcim Lanka and IPM Sri Lanka setting in motion the course for the inaugural batch of participants. The eight-month course will be continued throughout the coming months with the vision of creating better front-line managers for the industry and the nation as a whole.
