Traditionally Human Resource Management education has been a sequential activity where the students are compelled to learn on a stage by stage process. After an extensive survey amongst students and academics, it was found that requiring students to follow several stages results in unproductive repetition of the same learning. The survey revealed that the learning at early stages are incomplete and students who do not proceed to a higher stage are left with inadequate knowledge that may not be sufficient and appropriate for efficient functioning when employed. This repetitive learning causes the students to spend significantly more time and money, thus delaying the ultimate qualifying time. It was also revealed that the repetition of learning results in student dissatisfaction. Students who have completed their GCE Advanced Level studies now have an opportunity of directly enrolling themselves in the Edexcel Assured Diploma in Human Resource Management program. Instead of following a string of courses at preliminary, foundation and certificate stages, they will directly enrol and study at the Diploma stage. With a Diploma qualification, the lower grade certificates have no significance and therefore students do not stand to lose any by obtaining the Diploma directly. The Edexcel assured HR Diploma involves a content of 40 topics – comprehensively covered over 400 hours of teaching, far exceeding the coverage of comparable professional qualifications. The modules include Management, Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, Industrial Psychology, Industrial Relations and a Research Project. The teaching methodology involves many practical applications, industry visits and internal and external experiential based activities. This Diploma, assured by Edexcel UK is the only internationally recognised and globally respected HRM Diploma available in Sri Lanka – certified and quality assured by the world’s largest qualification awarding authority – Edexcel UK. Edexcel Assured signifies that the academic standards, assessment systems, syllabus content, teaching methodology and ethical practices are all in conformance to the highest international standards.   The completion of the Diploma in HRM enables the students to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, the ultimate qualification in business management. An ambitious student could complete the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree within two years after completing the Diploma. The MBA is awarded by University of Derby, highly respected British university currently ranked Number 37 by the Guardian, UK for Management and Marketing studies. The Derby MBA is amongst the top three MBAs available in Sri Lanka from UK universities. For all school leavers, HRMI guarantees Internship Training with leading private sector institutions. This training will provide the much needed exposure and experience the students need, thus enabling them to be qualified and ready for employment. The minimum entry requirements are at least two passes (any stream) at GCE (A/L) with English and Maths at O/Ls. The lectures are held on Sunday morning at the HRMI Edexcel Business School located at Nawala.   Under a special Corporate Social Responsibility project aimed at enhancing employability of undergraduates, HRMI offers generous discounts to graduates and undergraduates studying at local state universities. Under this scheme, all local university students will be benefited by being qualified with a professional HR qualification irrespective of their degree specialism. Holders of HR certificates and students who possess good A/L results are also offered special concessionary terms. Further details are available at www.hrmi.lk.
