The Association of Human Resources Professionals (HRP) will organise the biennial HRM Awards, the benchmark for industry best practices in Human Resources, for the 6th time this year, in partnership with the Society of Human Resource Management, India (SHRM).
The awards strive to provide a platform for public and private sector companies in Sri Lanka to evaluate the effectiveness of their human resource management (HRM) practices against internationally accepted guidelines.
Speaking during the launch event held at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo on 29 August, HRM Awards 2014 Chairperson L. Chiranthi Cooray stated that these awards had contributed greatly in upholding best HR practices in the country.
Highlighting the blind judging process, she ensured that the awards will be conducted without any bias or manipulation.
Ten Gold Awards, ten Silver Awards and six special category awards will be handed out to the private sector while three social Gold and Silver awards will be given to the public sector.
“Strict confidentiality is maintained throughout the evaluation, with organisations being identified by a code number based on points and the names of the participants being released to judges, committee members and the public, only after the winners have been confirmed,” she said.
Cooray also said that the response to the awards had been very positive in the past years, adding that she expects at least 100 entries this year.
President of HRP Sri Lanka Asitha Jayatunga spoke of the partnership between HRP and SHRM for these awards, stating that HRP have always united with internationally renowned technical partners in this endeavour.
“We look forward to the keen participation of companies to experience a best in class awards program that would recognise the success of the HR processes but also add value to further enhance the effectiveness of the processes.”
The panel of judges will comprise prominent local and international HR professionals and industrialists while the scientifically designed evaluation tool will first evaluate the best practices of participants against the established benchmarks facilitated by SHRM, India. Shortlisted organisations will be ranked and assessed by a panel of independent auditors from SHRM.
SHRM India CEO Achal Khanna was also present at the launch event in Colombo, where she stated that it was an honour to partner SHRM for the prestigious HRM Awards 2014.
“SHRM has been extensively working voer the last 66 years in developing HR practices, knowledge and research, and we would deploy our best practices as content partner for the HRM awards too,” she said.
First launched by the HRP to benchmark the best HRM practices in the country, the awards now provide a competitive arena in which corporate giants and smaller companies can compete for the honour of being ranked one of the ‘Super 10’ HRM practitioners in Sri Lanka. The winners will be announced at the HRM Awards Night scheduled to be held in March, next year.
