IPM members get Indian insights

A Sri Lankan delegation comprising 12 Human Resource Management (HRM) professionals, who are members of the Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM), took part at the 33rd Annual National Conference of the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) India, held on 12 and 13 September in Kolkata, India. The conference was staged at the Science City Auditorium, Kolkata, India hosted by the Kolkata Chapter of National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM). The Theme of the Conference was ‘Emerging Business Issues – HR Dynamics and Initiatives’. At any given year, this flagship event of National Institute of Personnel Management, notably its Management Convention, attracts on an average, a participation of over 1,000 delegates to this Convention from all over India and the Asia Pacific Regions. The participation of IPM members at these events is part of the member exchange program under the MOU between IPM and NIPM. The two institutions being the two leading establishments in their respective countries, providing HRM training, have come to this understanding upon identifying the need for regional collaboration on common human resource related issues. As part of the MOU the two institutions have arranged for a member exchange program where members from one institution will visit the other on study tours. This study tour to NIPM India, arranged with the Kolkata Chapter of the NIPM, is the 6th phase of the exchange program. The study tour of the Sri Lankan delegates included participation at the conferences, field visits, factory visits and knowledge sharing sessions. The team representing IPM at this prestigious event was also assigned with the task of promoting the IPM as the leader in HRM, and to learn and share the topical HRM trends. IPM President Rohitha Amarapala, speaking on the exchange program and member participation stated that the exchange program was designed especially to enhance global exposure to IPM members as well as the institutions. He further emphasised on the importance of HRM related knowledge sharing in the region to ensure regional economic development.

 IPM’s Immediate Past President addresses India’s 33rd NIPM Annual National Conference 2014

Samitha Perera, the Immediate Past President of the island’s premier professional body in Human Resources Management (HRM), the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) Sri Lanka, was invited to participate as a resource person for India’s 33rd NIPM Annual National Conference 2014, which was held on 12 and 13 September. This Conference was held at the Science City Auditorium, Kolkata, hosted by the Kolkata Chapter of National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) under the theme ‘Emerging Business Issues – HR Dynamics and Initiatives’. The Annual Management Convention is the flagship event of the National Institute of Personnel Management – India and in fact on any given year on average, over 1,000 delegates participate at this Convention from all over the country and the Asia Pacific Region. A delegation comprising 12 Human Resource Management (HRM) professionals, who are members of IPM Sri Lanka, also participated at the Conference as part of the member exchange program under the Memorandum of Understanding between IPM Sri Lanka and NIPM India. Significantly, President of India Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee was the Chief Guest of the aforementioned conference. IPM Sri Lanka is renowned not only for its high ranking professional education programmes but also for its interaction and relationship with global and regional professional associations that benefits its members, students and other stakeholders in a myriad of ways. Being a member of APFHRM, IPM maintains a close relationship with APFHRM’s member organisations and has also been identified as a significant professional body amongst them. Whilst congratulating Immediate Past President Samitha Perera, the current President of IPM, Rohitha Amarapala mentioned that IPM would reap the best out of this opportunity to give a wider exposure to the institute in the South Asian region.
